This is the natural ageing process that typically begins in our mid-20s. Collagen production slows down, and elastin, the substance that enables the skin to snap back into place, becomes less springy. Simultaneously, fat cells beneath the dermis begin to shrink, and the skin starts to lose its plumpness and resilience, leading to the formation of fine lines. External factors can accelerate the ageing process, often leading to premature skin ageing. Sun exposure (photoaging), smoking, pollution, poor nutrition, and repetitive facial expressions can damage the skin's collagen and elastin fibres, leading to the formation of deeper wrinkles and lines.
